Four of ACUSD#11 students completed art pieces in time to submit
to the ARSY Exhibit poster selection committee and
all four pieces were well received.
The Committee selected a painting by
3rd Grade student Ann G. of Alton's Gilson Brown Elementary
o be the image for this year's poster.
The painting is titled "Hands Holding The World" .
Congratulations to all of the students who submitted work and
to Annie!

We are all so proud!

ARTSY
ARTSY, is a network of professionals providing opportunities for
Arts in Residential and Therapeutic Settings with Youth
ARTSY is composed of art therapists, artists, art instructors and other professionals who provide artistic opportunities for youth in therapeutic settings.
Since 1997 art professionals have met to arrange an
Annual Therapeutic Youth Art Exhibition.
Children ages 3-19 from agencies in Missouri and Illinois create art
to be displayed in the annual show.

Each year, students participating in the art therapy program
have been invited to share their art in this special exhibit
designed
·       to increase self esteem and
·       highlight the accomplishments that youth make.

The Alton School District has once again been invited to participate
 in the
19th Annual ARTSY
THERAPEUTIC ARTS FOR YOUTH
Art Exhibit

Once again we are excited that for the 9th year in a row,
the exhibit will be held right here in Alton at the Jacoby Arts Center.

Each artist will select one piece of art to enter in the show and
write an “artist’s statement” to communicate in words
what they would like the public to know about their art.

Depending on the child’s needs, he/she may be assisted in this process to ensure that the image they select and the statement they write is expressed in a way that is positive and appropriate for public display.

Participation is encouraged but voluntary.
We find that most students look forward
to show off their work each year and
especially feel proud if family, friends and school staff
get to see their art in a real gallery.

Since the art is created in a therapeutic setting, the kids are given the choice to protect their identity.
The youth are asked to only submit their first names
(or create a made-up first name) and
their age.

The ARTSY Exhibition will be from May 14th - May 19th
Jacoby Art Center
627 East Broadway
Alton, IL 62002

Only Open to the public Wed-Sat: 12-4 pm, closed on Sun-Tues.

Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
